With one final thrust, you push the massive stone door open. A gust of air, heavy with age and secrets, rushes around you.
The room before you is cavernous, drenched in shadow. Your eyes adjust to the dim light slowly. Mounds of gold glow beneath the torchlight. There are goblets, crowns, and statues of precious stones.
But that isn’t what holds your attention.
It’s the pile of stories and artwork sitting beside a great crimson dragon along with what looks like a remarkably comfortable looking chair. The dragon studies you with a slight smile. “Well met, good traveler. Come and enjoy the spoils of your adventure.”
The warmth of the dragon’s voice reassures you that all is as you were told. As you approach, the dragon nudges one of the stories in your direction. “It’s good to finally have company here. Perhaps you’d be so kind as to tell me about your adventures?”
You nod. “Yes. I’d be happy to.” You sit in the chair and pick up a book. “Would you like me to tell you or would you rather I read to you?”
“Let’s start with the reading.” The dragon settles down with an even happier smile. “I do love a good story.”
That is one thing you and the dragon share in common.
