The stone door grates over the coarse floor and creaks on its aged hinges. At last you are here.
This enormous treasure room yawns before you, filled with gold and gems of all kinds. Glittering mountains of riches.
But there, smelling of old paper and ink, rests a blue dragon, sleeping next to a pile of books and artwork. The dragon cracks open an eye, then yawns. “Come in, well-read traveler. You have done well. Let’s celebrate your success.”
“Celebrate? With a nap?” You laugh a little at the dragon’s friendly tone. It’s obvious the dragon wants only to rest for now.
The dragon chuckles at this as well, then stretches. “Naps are almost as delightful as stories.” A long yawn follows. “As much as I would love to hear of your travels and adventures, I do need my sleep. Are you in a hurry?”
You shrug as you approach. Just on the other side of the dragon’s head is a cozy chair. Perfect for reading. “I might be able to occupy myself.”
“A few good books to choose from, hmm?” The dragon sighs. “Well, if you wouldn’t mind reading until I wake, I’d be delighted to hear you recount your tales.”
You pick up one of the books and settled down into the chair. “Sounds like an excellent plan to me.” Besides, with the extra time, it will let you consider all that you have gone through and how to tell it. After all, even a friendly dragon appreciates a well-told story. Something the two of you have in common.
